Phoenix Trading hits £1million charity fundraising target

London, 23 August 2010Phoenix Trading, one of the UK’s top 10 greeting card publishers, with its independent charity arm, The Phoenix International Charity, announced today that it has raised an amazing £1million for charity through the collective efforts of its directors, staff, artists and worldwide sales force of 11,000 Phoenix Traders and their customers.

The owners of Phoenix Trading started along the fundraising road fifteen years ago by raising £180 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer as a gesture to a friend afflicted with the illness. As the company has continued to grow, so too has its involvement in fundraising. In 2009, they raised over £70,000, from the sale of their charity Christmas cards, for over 90 charities including Cancer Research UK who received £28,000. This takes the total raised for cancer research charities to over £1/2 million. Other good causes, nominated by Traders, received between £100 and £750.

Last year, The Phoenix International Charity raised £136,000 for Children’s Hospices UK. Julian Hall, director of fundraising for Children’s Hospices UK, comments “It’s great to have such a level of support. The fantastic amounts raised by The Phoenix International Charity over the last two years will benefit children, young people and the families that rely on their local hospice. It’s truly amazing to see the efforts and results achieved from their fundraising activities.” This year’s donation already stands at over £140,000 with significantly more still to come. One very special and rather spectacular design, by bestselling artist, Gerry Murray, alone sold 100,000 cards and raised £50,000 in July.

Robin Bradley, founder of Phoenix Trading, says “It’s a great feeling to know that by working together, with all that collective enthusiasm and hard work, we give more per pound of profit to charity than many of the largest multinationals! We set up The Phoenix International Charity to deliver real support and we couldn’t be more delighted with the results. We’re all so excited; we’ve already started chasing the next £1million!”

About Phoenix Trading

Phoenix Trading started in 1995 when three South London-based mothers, Robin, Susie and Vanessa, put a tenner each into a kitty to buy wholesale greeting cards from a local publisher. The three partners worked part-time for a year selling the cards direct to friends, family and at fundraising events for schools and charities. Now with an enthusiastic team of almost 12,000 Phoenix Traders worldwide and over 78 prodigiously talented artists, Phoenix Trading offers innovative products at well below what you’d expect to pay in the High Street and far more original in terms of design. As a direct selling, independent card publishing house, Phoenix Trading has sold in excess of 100 million cards. It donates a substantial amount of its profits to charity and has given £1million to charities to date. Phoenix Trading does not sell its products through conventional retail outlets; instead it markets an exclusive range of cards and stationery through its international team of Independent Phoenix Traders. Its direct approach offers exceptional value for money without compromising on the quality of the product and design.
