About Red Nose Day

Red Nose Day is, quite simply, a day like no other! There is some fantastic fundraising happening in schools, offices and homes across the land, mixed in with the nation’s favourite celebrities getting up to all kinds of mischief. Add a sprinkling of new Red Noses across the entire UK and a cracking night of comedy on BBC One and you can see why Red Nose Day is such a phenomenon.

All this funny business unites the nation in trying to make a difference to the lives of thousands of people – and the best thing is – it works!

This year, to be part of Red Nose Day 2009, you just need to Do Something Funny for Money. Over at Phoenix Head Office, we’ve navigated our way through the 118 118 representatives in crazy wigs and quirky outfits (they have been the cause of a lot of smiling and laughing on Merton Road!) to enter a sea of staff cloaked in red clothing – each one of them is making a gold coin donation. Jan Dennis would have to be one of the stand-outs in a fabulous Hollywood-inspired ensemble! Of course, there are always people willing to go one step further, or in the case of our fantastic Customer Service operators, several steps! The ladies organised for their Phoenix colleagues, friends and families to sponsor them to come into work in their pyjamas – extra kudos has to go to Katie who made her way to the office on the bus (we bet she got a few curious stares!). Fiona and Paula also provided entertainment for fellow Londoners, as they proudly walked part of the way to the office still dressed in their night clothes! Katie also managed to convince Monika to join her for lunch at the local Starbucks, where their unique brand of office-wear inspired a number of friendly chuckles from fellow patrons.

Providing sustenance in the midst of all this excitement has been a delicious bake sale with a scrumptious selection of cakes, biscuits and slices, all of which have been lovingly made and donated by Phoenix staff. And if that wasn’t enough, the Directors generously agreed to donate a day off work as first prize for a staff raffle – it’s hardly surprising that the tickets were snapped up at a rate that would make your head spin! After all, who wouldn’t want the chance to win a free day off work!

With all this activity going on, it’s impossible not to notice it was Red Nose Day over at Phoenix!

The current total raised by Phoenix staff stands at £465.31 and Traders have very generously added to this, making our overall fundraising total, so far, £832.31. There are also further sponsorship amounts to be added as soon as the monies have been collected.
