Many Phoenix Traders operate some or all of the time on a charitable basis, donating anything from 10% to 100% of their profits to their chosen good cause.

Christmas Cards:

The sale of charity Christmas cards is one of the main ways Traders can generate donations on a large scale. In the UK, Traders can actively nominate a charity that they would like to be considered as a recipient of such funds. In this way, money is given to smaller, local causes as well as well known, larger charities.

Charity Month:

This year, 2016, Phoenix Trading will be actively promoting June as the month to focus on fundraising activities. Phoenix Trading provides support materials to encourage Traders and their customers/supporters to host charity coffee mornings, ‘Cake & Cards’ events and support any other activities to raise money for a good cause.

Other activities associated with the charities supported by Phoenix Trading are also supported by Phoenix Traders throughout the year.

Whilst Phoenix Trading raises money from product sales, many Traders donate some, if not all, of their profits from such events to charity.

“As Phoenix Traders we all help different groups and charities to raise money on a daily basis through our regular sales, brochure drops, having a stall at fetes and fayres and Coffee & Cards events.  However, sometimes it is nice to have a bigger and more focused opportunity to raise money for one specific cause.

Twice a year, I open up my house to all my local friends, family and customers to come along and browse the current range whilst having a nice cuppa, a slice or two of cake and a good old chin-wag!  It is so easy to do it in your own home as there is plenty of room and you have no competition from other stallholders!

10% of sales is donated to the charity along with the raffle takings and people’s donations for refreshments.  In the spring, I usually hold an Open House in aid of our local hospice and usually raise £230+.  In the autumn, I hold an Open House to coincide with Macmillan’s Biggest Coffee Morning in the World fundraiser, which usually raises around £400.  Both of these charities are very well supported as so many of us have been touched in some way by serious illness in a family member or friend and have seen first-hand the wonderful support both charities offer to both the patient and their families.

I love doing these events.  We have a lovely sociable time catching up on everyone’s news and my customers love to have a rummage through all the gorgeous goodies.  At the end of it I get an enormous kick out of giving the charities the money we have raised and they are always so grateful for it.  It’s definitely a WIN-WIN-WIN situation!” Clare Wilson

I have never thought of myself as a fund raiser, but when my grandson was born 10 years ago, with cerebral palsy and epilepsy, I started holding lunches, coffee mornings and arranging quiz evenings to raise money, initially for a charity called Brainwave. This wonderful and inspiring charity provided a programme of exercises for James and almost more importantly a great deal of encouragement when things looked rather bleak.

I was first introduced to Phoenix in 2009 and immediately realised that selling the lovely range of cards could be a huge boost to my fundraising. I started rather tentatively, and it took me two years to really get into my card selling stride, but then I set myself a target of raising a minimum of £1000 for my chosen charity each year and so far I’ve managed to do this. As well as Brainwave, I have supported Epilepsy Action and Riding for the Disabled as well as a variety of smaller local charities. I don’t do anything special, just the usual events everyone does, but my cards are always there and people know they are supporting a charity when they buy from me and are very generous.

I must thank The Phoenix International Charity for their great support in giving so generously to so many charities. Brainwave has received £850 over the years from them and Epsom Riding for the Disabled, £500.

I am still surprised at how things have turned out and that I have found the confidence to do it. It really has been great fun and very satisfying.Heather Powell
