‘Hunting for a cure ~ with care’
In the summer 2006, I met another mum on one of those ‘first school viewings’ at a school in Leamington Spa. Debbie and I became friends and both our children started in the following September!
In March 2007, Debbie was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease. Her mother has the condition too! As you can imagine the news was absolutely devastating. It is only in recent months that Debs has decided that she now feels comfortable about promoting awareness of Huntington’s Disease and hopes to be able to provide people with a better understanding of the disease.
A few mums (including Debs and me of course!) have set up a small fundraising committee in support of The Huntington’s Disease Association and are planning fundraising events around the Leamington Spa area over the forthcoming months with a Charity Ball planned for next Spring (along with a celebrity!!)
Back in July we had a lovely fundraising evening at my house with Debbie giving us a brief insight about her condition and what the future holds for her and her family.
We had a fantastic raffle and along with the sale of those good old Phoenix cards We raised a fantastic £153.18 and that’s just the start!
Look out for us… you might see us collecting in the local shopping centre ‘The Priors’ very soon..!
